PRE & POST OPERATIVE CARE OF APPENDECTOMY

Objective  To prepare patient before go to surgery  To reduce patient anxiety before and after surgery.  To prevent complication after surgery.  Give health education for patient to continue normal lifestyle.

INTRODUCTION APPENDIX Is a small, fingerlike or worm like tube located where the large & small intestine . The anatomical name for appendix is VERMIFORM APPENDIX ( means worm like appendage )

APPENDICITIS An inflammation of the appendix.

APPENDECTOMY The surgical procedure of removal of the appendix.

PRE OPERATIVE CARE

Assess patient database Activity/rest Circulation Food/fluid Pain/discomfort Respiration Allergic

Consent inform must be sign. ister IV line as ordered. NBM patient 6 – 8 hour Skin preparation – shaving (nipple line to mid-thigh) Psychological – encourage to ventilate feelings.

Diagnostic test Blood test Chest x-ray/abdominal x-ray Ultrasound Ct scan ECG

POST OPERATIVE CARE

Monitor vital sign. Assess level of consciousness. Assess bleeding at wound site. Give clear fluid for first POD. Monitor for infection and any complication at the wound incision.

ister IV prophylaxis antibiotics as ordered. Maintain aseptic technique during dressing. Encourage patient to do ROM exercise.

Health Education.(Discharge) Advice patient to take antibiotics medication completely. Avoid patient to carry heavy thing. Advice patient to check any abnormal at site of wound incision such as redness, swelling, discharge or fever and come immediately to hospital.
