Stages of the lesson
I.WARM UP Aims:
- to help students get into the atmosphere of the English language; - to get students ready for the English class by having an informal
conversation; -to warm them up
Procedure:
Teacher greets the students, introduces the guest and asks if
anybody is absent. She asks them how they are. Pupils respond to informal questions. Teacher tells a joke to break the ice. T: Good morning, children! Ss: Good morning, teacher! T: How are you today? S: We’re fine, thank you! T: What’s the weather like today? Who’s on duty today? Who is absent? Ss answer the T’s questions.
Time: 2 minutes Interaction: T – Ss; Ss – T
II. Aims:
CHECKING PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE - to check whether the students have learnt their lesson; -
review the language taught in My animals
Procedure: T. asks the students to take the action picture word cards out of the envelope and put them on their desks ( picture side up), invite a child to come up and mime one of the actions. The rest of the class tries to guess the correct action. Whoever guesses correctly, takes the next turn. Then T. plays the song “ I’m a horse!” and invites the children to sing along. Time: 5 minutes Interaction: T – Ss; Ss – T; whole class
III. LEAD IN Aims: -to introduce the new topic; Procedure:
Teacher brings into the class a big bag or box in which can fit
about six toys. T. uses a doll, a teddy, a ball, a puppet , a soldier and a toy car. She makes a big show of putting her hand into the bag and feeling around for a toy. Once she had the toy in her hand, she presents it to the students: e.g. This is a toy car. She then es the bag around the class for the children to pick a toy themselves. She presents all the toys to the children.

IV. PRESENTATION AND PRACTICE Activity 1 Aims: - to present the vocabulary of the lesson Procedure: Teacher pins up toy flashcards on the blackboard, one at a time and says the appropriate word. Children repeat chorally and individually. She then draws a large 30 on the board, points to it , mimes and says: “ Open your books at page 30!” Teacher reads the title of the theme My toys! Teacher uses the picture of a toy on the board to illustrate the meaning of the word toys. She goes through the theme with the children and comment on the pictures illustrating the dialogue.
Time: 5 minutes

Activity 2 – LISTEN AND LOOK Aims:
- to develop their listening skills;
Procedure: Teacher sets the scene by asking the children what they can see in the pictures illustrating the dialogues. e.g. ( pointing to Chuckles): Is Chuckles happy or sad? Then, T. plays the cassette. Children listen and look at the pictures illustrating the dialogue. Teacher plays the dialogue again with pauses for the children to listen and repeat. She checks children pronunciation and intonation.
Time: 6 minutes
Activity 3 - LISTEN AND MATCH Aims: - to listen for comprehension. Procedure:
Teacher explains the listening task. She elicits the names of the
toys. Tell the children that they are going to listen to the dialogue again and match Larry, Lulu and Chuckles to the correct toy.

4 Whose toy is this?
Aims: - to ask questions; -
to use appropriately the genitive form
Procedure: Pin up the toy soldier flashcard on the board. Point to it and say: “ Whose toy soldier is this?” Answer: “ It’s Larry’s”. Children repeat chorally and individually. She does the same thing for the ballerina and the teddy bear. Then, she hands out the flashcards to three children. She asks them to come in front of the class to tell her whose toys they are. T. repeats the procedure with three more children.
Time: 6 minutes Interaction: T – Ss; Ss – Ss ( pair work)
Activity 5 Aims: -
to be able to use the prepositions under, on, in correctly when making
sentences.
Procedure: Teacher holds up her book to the class. She says the dialogue and points to the pictures in turn. She repeats, this time inviting the children to complete her sentences. e.g. “ Is it under the ….?” ‘’ No. it’s ….” Then, teacher selects a short exchange from the dialogue for the children to act out in pairs. She encourages them to come in front of the class to perform their exchange.
Time: 7 minutes Interaction: pair work Aims: - to consolidate the new vocabulary Procedure: Teacher holds her book and a pen . She puts her pen in, on or under her book and ask a child: “ Is it under the book?”. The child has to answer: Yes, it is/ No, it isn’t. Time: 3 minutes Interaction: whole class
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT Aims: to help students develop the skill of an individual learner; To consolidate and reinforce learning done at school; To help develop good work habits for the future Procedure: T assigns students the homework. She gives each of them a worksheet containing a crossword related to toys. Time: 2 minutes Interaction: Ss – T; T - SS
