19.1  Description and Operation of the GHG14 DD15 AT Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve/Hot Pipe The DD15 Asymmetrical Turbocharger (AT) Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve is a part of the EGR hot pipe connected to the exhaust manifold and the EGR cooler. The valve must be serviced as part of the EGR hot pipe. The EGR valve position is controlled by Detroit Diesel Electronic Controls (DDEC). The Motor Control Module (MCM 2.1) continuously monitors all engine operation modes and performs self-diagnostic checks of RPM, load, altitude, air temperature, etc. and uses this information to determine EGR valve position.
